About Nameserver

Nameserver is a set of free tools for checking DNS records, mail authentication, TLS certificates and domain registration data. Each tool has its own page, and the full list is in the tool directory.

Why this site exists

Most DNS and mail problems are solved in a few minutes once you can see what exactly is wrong. Finding that out usually means a command line, or several sites that print the raw answer and leave the reading of it to you. Here the answer is laid out in plain language, and every result says what it means and what to do next.

Where the data comes from

  • DNS records are queried directly from public resolvers. Nothing is taken from an intermediary.
  • Domain registration data comes from the official registries over RDAP, and over whois on port 43 where a registry has no RDAP service. The list of servers to ask comes from the IANA bootstrap files.
  • IP address data comes from the regional internet registries.
  • Certificates are read by connecting to the host you enter and looking at what it presents.

Who runs Nameserver

The site is run by CloudHosting, a Latvian hosting and server provider. The tools are free and need no registration. A link to CloudHosting appears only when a check has found a specific problem we can help with, not as a permanent advert.

Errors and suggestions

If a tool reports something incorrectly, or a check you need is missing, write to info@cloudhosting.lv.

Privacy

Checks are not saved to a database and never become pages of their own. What the web server does log, and for how long, is on the privacy page.
